The SLU Billiken’s have a new women’s soccer coach and some early results were on display Tuesday evening at Hermann Stadium. The Mizzou Tigers were in-town and while the final result favored the visitors (2-0 by Dominique Richardson and Alyssa Diggs, both in the final quarter of the match) it was an entertaining game that speaks well to improved attitudes and play on the mid-town campus.
I chat with Coach Mertz in the video below about the game. We also covered a few other topics including why she chose to come to SLU – facilities, a winnable conference that sent two teams to the NCAA in 2011 – and the goals she has for the program.
I also recommend you check out the good interview with Coach Mertz – Top teams muster strength even in defeat – that came out on STLclubSoccer.com today.
The Lady Bills are slated to play Washington University Saturday, April 14, at a location and time to be determined. SLU closes the spring season at home against Arkansas Saturday, April 28, at 5 p.m. The Arkansas game is almost a double-header with the men’s team who play at 2 pm that day.
You may also get lucky and catch her or her new assistant Katie Shields at the Parkway College Showcase this weekend.
