Missouri State Cup Soccer: Day 2

Josh Ellerbee, Springfield SC challenges Lou Fusz King, State Cup 2012I’m focusing on U15 Boys, U16 Girls and U17 Boys during the group stages:

U15 Boys
Springfield SC – 2
Lou Fusz King Premier – 1
A 75th minute goal by Jacob Moore (SoBoCo) for SSC was decisive, see it on video below! Moore opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with a run straight at the defense.

Lou Fusz tied the match in the 60th on an SSC defensive miscue near the top of the box, as a long ball into the box was hit up but not out and ended up chipping the keeper who was caught out. Fusz also had two balls hit the crossbar, one in each half.

Bracket C – Springfield now has 6 points and a +6 goals advantage. LF King will need a win, make up a 3 goal disadvantage and some help from Lou Fusz Miller who tied SLSG Black 1-1 today.

Bracket B – SLSG Premier White gets a 2nd win to lead the group and control their destiny with a game against KC Futura FC Inter tomorrow. Semifinal is Tuesday at 9:00 am against Bracket C winner.

Bracket A – SLSG Premier Green are the only team with a positive goal differential in the bracket and face face Lou Fusz King Monday. A draw guarantees advancement to the semifinals which are 9am Tuesday. The foe comes from Bracket D.

Bracket D – SLSG Premier Navy go into Monday’s final group game with a pair of wins and a winless foe in SLSG Red. SLSG Elite plays Lou Fusz Pike, each have an advantage in goal differential over SLSG Premier Navy but will need a win of their own and a loss by SLSG Premier Navy to advance.

Springfield SC – 2
WC STL – 1
An upset as the St Louis squad have finished 2nd the last two years to KC Futura. WC opened the scoring 5 minutes in on a set piece that left a pair of forwards inexplicably unmarked.

Springfield fought back, tying the game on a corner kick in the 25th. Delivered by Aspen Hawkins, who led Central to their first ever District title and finished via header by Kasey Opfer, defensive mid for Glendale. The game winner (video below) scored by Peyton DeHart (Nixa), who showed great patience in her finishing. They face JB Marine Garabedian Monday, a team that lost 1-7 to WC STL, for the semifinal spot.

Bracket C: Missouri Elite FC surprised Lou Fusz O’Rourke on Saturday. Lou Fusz went on to beat SLSG Green 3-1 on Sunday so Monday’s match between Missouri Elite and SLSG Green is advantage Elite. A draw sends them through against Springfield, a familiar local foe.

Bracket A: The defending champion KCFC/FUTURA ACADEMY advance with two wins and +9 goal differential
Bracket D: SLSG PREMIER NAVY 95/96 have the advantage with four points from their first two matches and a game Monday against the winless PANATHINAIKOS ACADEMY. For TONY GLAVIN SC LIONS GREEN, also a winless foe in SLSG Red (two draws) but a 4-6 loss to SLSG Premier Navy means they need a win, goals and help from PA.

U17 Boys
Springfield SC – 3
SLSG White – 1
The defending champions got an 8th minute goal from Aaron Strunk (Kickapoo) to open a lead they took to halftime. Recent call-up Levi Pueppke (Parkview) scored in his second straight game while Ismael Serratos (Carthage) completed the scoring the SSC. They lead the bracket with 6 points and face a winless Mid-River squad on Monday. A draw or a win and they advance to the Semifinals from Bracket A.

Bracket D: Springfield SC would face SLSG Elite who have already advanced from Bracket D. Game time for that Semifinal on Tuesday is 3:00 pm on Cooper 1.

Bracket C: Lou Fusz Williams look likely to advance, with a pair of shutouts in their bracket and a game against a winless foe tomorrow.
Bracket B: The final spot will be a battle between last year’s second place finisher, Raytown/Billy Goat FC and SLSG Green. Both squads have a pair of shutouts and 6 points. Billy Goat has a +13 goal differential to SLSG Green’s +6 meaning a draw or a win advances the KC squad. Game time is 4:30 pm on Cooper #3.

That’s where I’ll be Monday 🙂

Total Demize – 0
SLSG Black – 2
St Louis Scott Gallagher (SLSG) Black scored a goal in each half to down the local boys this afternoon on Cooper #1. The goals were scored
