Girls U15 State Cup
The semifinals open Saturday morning with a Club derby between Lou Fusz Wipke and Lou Fusz Huesegen that ensures LFSC will reach the finals on Sunday. Wipke were were Finalist’s as U14’s but lost to JB Marine Schneider who look to repeat this year if they can get past top-ranked Futura Academy.
Schneider gave up a single goal in the group stage, in a 1-1 draw in their second game on Saturday against LF Mannion while shutting out Kolping and JB Marine Leahy by identical 4-0 margins. Futura were equally stingy while going unbeaten in their group, getting past Springfield, SLSG and LFSC while scoring 8 goals. The two teams last played in Fall 2012. The difference in the rankings appears to be based on the Spring 2013 MRL title that Futura won.
#3 J. B. MARINE ELITE SCHNEIDER – 3 (PK win)
#1 FUTURA ACADEMY FORTE PREMIER – 2
Wipke, who beat Futura to reach the Final in the last Cup, opened group play with a scoreless draw against SLSG Barcelona before going on to win against Lou Fusz Paulson 7-0 and MO Rush Amlong 5-0. The win against Rush moved them into the knockout rounds. Huesgen, like Futura, went undefeated in group play scoring ten and giving up none against SLSG, LFSC Manuel and Bayern Munich. The Bayern game was scoreless at halftime but Huesgen went on to earn a 3-0 win.

On a side note, keep an eye on Wipke’s #3, Kirsten Davis. A new recruit, she’s pictured above scoring the first goal against Missouri Rush that opened the floodgates in the 5-0 win. I’ve got some background on Kirsten below.

JB Marine Garabedian crashes this years playoff, after missing a spot in 2012 by goal differential to eventual champions SLSG Premier 97/98. Lou Fusz Wayland were finalists last Fall, reaching the final game with their win over Futura.
If the rankings hold any value, it would appear that this years winner will come from the match between SLSG and JB Marine. The Gallagher girls went undefeated and unscored on during group play, beating Bayern, JB Marine Szarwinski and Scarborough respectively, scoring 12 goals. The two teams played to a draw during the SLYSA Fall season, where SLSG finished 2nd and JB 3rd. Garabedian advanced from group play via tie-breakers after losing 0-1 to LFSC Michalek in the final group game. We’ll see what two weeks of preparation has done for both teams Saturday.
8:45 AM – #4 SLSG PREMIER 97/98 vs #2 JB MARINE ELITE-GARABEDIAN – Lou Fusz #4
As noted earlier, Wayland were Finalists last Fall. That was the last time these two teams played, with Wayland knocking Futura out in the semifinals by a 1-0 score last year. They lost twice to Garabedian this Fall but in group play opened with a pair of shutouts before finishing with a tie against LFSC Lister which is what was needed to advance. Futura got past JB Marine Rasch 3-2 in the second match on Saturday but bracketed that game with a pair of shutouts against SLSG Silver and Harambe. It could be wide open on Field #5 Saturday.

Davis joins Wipke after playing previously with Football NSW (New South Wales, Australia) where she was a member of the Metro U15 girls program that won the National title in Australia this past Summer. New South Wales is the largest State in Australia (by population) and the Metro girls team can be compared to an Illinois ODP team in terms of population (over 7 million). Kirsten is blessed with speed, strength and a nose for finishing that will require special attention this weekend.
