And… the International Friendlies have returned! The International Champions Cup returns, although not to St Louis. I’m guessing that named sponsor Guinness isn’t too hot on visiting the home of Budweiser. So while we won’t be able to spend hundreds of dollars to see the boys live, we will see plenty of action via the tube. So here are the details and remember, you can always find every one of these games listed in my Soccer on TV calendar.
For the Guinness (giggle) International Champions Cup that opens Thursday, the teams are set up in two groups of four this year, leading to 12 matches. The Group winners will then face off for the ‘title’ on August 4th.
Group A includes Manchester United, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and AS Roma. Group B has Liverpool FC, Manchester City, Olympiacos and AC Milan. All of the games are being televised, primarily on Fox and Fox Sports 1 and 2. You can also catch all of them on ESPN Deportes television and WatchESPN. The schedule below is not current but it will be updated on the calendar.
As I mentioned, the Guinness ICC opens Thursday July 24th, with Olympiacos vs AC Milan from Toronto, a 7:00 pm CT start. ManU faces AS Roma Saturday afternoon while Real Madrid plays Inter that afternoon as well. Sunday it’s Manchester City vs AC Milan and Liverpool vs Olympiacos. To keep up on the details, there is a Facebook Page as well as a Twitter account.
I mentioned Manchester United in the headline of this story. We get a Wednesday night double-header to start things off. Manchester City is playing against Sporting KC at Sporting Park while Manchester United will face off against the LA Galaxy. Details below.
There are a number of other teams in the US of A in the coming weeks. I’ve highlighted some of there games in the table below that takes us through Sunday. Before they take part in the Guinness ICC Liverpool and AS Roma will face off on Wednesday on NBC Sports while Tottenham Hotspur face Toronto FC. Arsenal visit New York Red Bull on Saturday. And there are plenty of MLS matches to enjoy as well.
