Anne Felts is beginning her first year as the head women’s soccer coach at University of the Incarnate Word in 2014. Only 31, her first game at the helm will be tonight (Friday) against Texas, at Austin, in a game that will be broadcast live on Longhorn TV (1611 on AT&T Uverse).
It’s the account of the model student-athlete – high school valedictorian with a perfect 4.0 gpa while setting state records, captain of her college squad’s academic team and member of the university’s student-athlete academic council while winning a national championship, and now pursuing a master’s degree while taking on the challenge of a new sport.
The National championship came at the University of North Carolina, where she roomed with fellow Missouri native Lori Chalupny who is two years younger than Anne and now leads the Chicago Red Stars.
At Rolla High School from 1997 – 2001, Felts played midfield and forward in a prep career that saw her finish her senior year as the Missouri record holder for single season assists (38), career assists (103), single season goals (56), and career goals (167) at the time. Her career assists mark ranked fourth all-time in the country. In compiling these records, she was named first team All-State four years in a row and earned selection as Missouri High School Player of the Year in 2000, NSCAA All-Midwest team in 2000, and NSCAA High School All-American in 2001.
Felts joined the Incarnate Word women’s soccer coaching staff in 2012. In her first year with at UIW, Felts helped guide the team to a second place regular season finish in the Lone Star Conference and a Runner-Up finish in the LSC Tournament. The team outscored their opponents 32-23 during the year. Three field players earned First Team all-LSC honors. In her second season as an assistant, the Cardinals went 10-6-3 in their first year in the Southland Conference and notched a number of impressive victories. They outscored the opposition nearly 2-1 for the entire year.

Prior to joining the staff at UIW, Felts was part of the Sporting Columbia Soccer Club coaching staff from 2006-11. The club is based out of Columbia, Mo. She was the head coach at Rockbridge High School in Missouri for the Spring 2012 season as well.
You can follow her on Twitter at @TheFeltsy and the Incarnate Word Cardinals at @UIWwomensSoccer. By the way, the picture above is of her with husband Wes, from her Twitter feed. They were High School sweethearts.
And since she’s such a North Carolina fan, I have to share this fun video with you from her Twitter feed. Congratulations to COACH FELTS and good luck as you bring the winning spirit to the UIW Cardinals.
