Saint Louis men’s soccer opens its exhibition slate Saturday, Aug. 16, against preseason No. 1 and defending NCAA champion Notre Dame. Kickoff from Robert R. Hermann Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Prices are $10 for adults and $5 for youth. Groups of 20 or more receive discounted tickets for $4 apiece. Students with a valid SLU ID card receive free admission.
Inaugural Kickoff Dinner on Friday: Friday night’s Billiken Kickoff Dinner, held at 6:30 p.m. in Lorenzini’s at Chaifetz Arena, will feature Dan Flynn. Flynn, the CEO and Secretary General of U.S. Soccer, will recap the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Additionally, members of the Billiken men’s soccer team will be on hand for a meet-and-greet. Tickets are $100 and can be purchased by calling 314-977-8180.
About the Billikens: Saint Louis returns five of its top six scorers from last year’s squad that went 14-5-2 overall and 6-0-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Billikens captured the A-10 regular-season title and advanced to the league’s championship game.
Hermann Trophy Watch List: Saint Louis senior forward Robert Kristo and senior defender Anthony Manning have been named to the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List for the second straight season. Kristo was a semifinalist for the award in 2012.
Polling Place: Saint Louis is receiving votes (No. 35 overall) in the preseason NSCAA rankings. Preseason polls from College Soccer News, Soccer America, Soccer Times and Top Drawer Soccer have not yet been released.
Exhibition Season Continues: The Billikens play three exhibition contests before the season opener Friday, Aug. 29. After the Notre Dame game, SLU travels to face Illinois-Chicago Wednesday, Aug. 20. The Billikens round out exhibition play when they host Jefferson College Saturday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m. in the annual SLU student “Welcome Week” game.
Scouting the Fighting Irish: Notre Dame captured its first national title last season after posting a 17-1-6 overall record and a 7-1-3 mark in the ACC. The Fighting Irish defeated Maryland 2-1 in the NCAA championship game in Hoover, Ala. Notre Dame returns 10 starters from last year’s team, including four players named All-ACC. Senior defender Nick Besler is on the Hermann Trophy Watch List.
Coaching Staff: Mike McGinty, the A-10 Coach of the Year the last two seasons, is in his fifth season as the Billikens’ head coach. He was hired in March 2010 after an 11-year stint at the University of Virginia, where he served as associate head coach for the 2009 NCAA national champion Cavaliers. McGinty’s four-year career coaching record is 45-27-6. He is aided by assistant coaches Brian Grazier (first year) and Blake Schneider (second year), goalkeeper coach Tim Kelly and senior student manager Mark Pais.
