The heat and humidity have arrived in St. Louis, and that usually signal the beginning of the boys high school soccer season and Metro Catholic Conference (MCC) action. As Ole explained in his recent writings, the actions of MSHSAA of moving the season one week earlier has created change in the scheduling for all teams, as many tournaments remain the same. So the MCC (along with other leagues) is starting their conference schedule much earlier in the season, and why initial conference matches have already begun. Let’s get a rundown:

CBC – the Cadets opened their schedule with a 3-0 victory over visiting Jefferson City. Leading the way with goals were freshman Nick Dempster, Jake Meyerkord and Kurt Gerteisen, with the shutout shared by the CBC keepers.

This week the Cadets host three matches, with SLUH on Wednesday, Lindbergh on Thursday and Chaminade on Saturday afternoon.

Chaminade – the Red Devils opened their season hosting MCC foe SLUH and came away with a 3-0 victory on goals by Kenny Massa (2) and Dominic Vella, with the clean sheet from Zach Pogue. PHOTO GALLERY

This week Chaminade travels to Hazelwood West on Wednesday and then to CBC on Saturday at noon for more MCC conference action.

Desmet – the Spartans open the season under the new leadership of Josh Klein, and they go on the road to play Francis Howell Central on Tuesday, Eureka on Thursday and finally home on Saturday to take on Wentzville Timberland.

SLUH – the Jr. Bills started the season on the road with a 3-0 defeat to Chaminade. The week ahead is even more challenging with road matches at CBC on Wednesday and then a road trip to Louisville, KY to take on Trinity (KY) on Friday and St. Xavier on Saturday.

Vianney – began the season on the road and came away with a 2-0 victory over Mehlville, with goals by Jack Gallo and Will Klages and the shutout by Brandon Ochterbeck.

This week the Golden Griffins will host St. Dominic this Saturday on their newly turfed field.

Welcome to the season!
