Via the Edwardsville Intelligencer, by Matthew Kamp who offers the best coverage of the Tigers at @Kamper317
Edwardsville scored five first-half goals, and it added two more in the second half for a 7-0 victory over visiting Belleville East. The seven goals were the most scored by the Tigers since defeating Civic Memorial 7-1 on Oct. 6, 2012.
The game was scoreless until the 19th minute when Landon Paul created a corner kick after taking a long ball down (pictured above) and challenging the defense in the box. Paul’s corner kick found defender Max Kieffer who headed it in.
The Tigers, ranked #2 in the Metro poll, appear deserving of the lofty status. Led from the center by Landon Paul, paired with fellow senior Andrew Mullican, the play runs through them to a team that wants to keep the ball on the ground and moving to goal. Both are captains as is senior Suleman Bazai who shares the lone striker role with freshman Alec Mills.
I’m committed to covering a game a week in Illinois which will focus on the Southwest Conference, which includes Alton, Granite City, Belleville East and West as well as Collinsville and O’Fallon Township.
CBC visits Collinsville tonight, we’ll see how the Kahoks do against the Cadets. As for Edwardsville, if you aren’t on the Eastside there will be two games against MCC squads in early October worth adding to your calendar now.
