The US Youth Soccer National Championships, which will feature top teams in the Under-13 through Under-19 age groups, kickoff with round robin games Tuesday, July 26, through Thursday, July 28. National Champions will be crowned on Saturday and Sunday.

Missouri is represented this year by the FCKC Pink Panther Elite U-16 Girls who will open against CUP Gold, the team they defeated 2-0 in the Region II Tournament Final this year. CUP advanced to the @USYSNCS as the Region II representative however while FCKC had previously qualified as a Top 4 Qualifier in the National League this season. The girls will face three opponents in Group Play, including the two-time defending National Champion Legends FC (CA-S) in the final game. Below is the Group Preview via USYSA.

Legends FC 99 (CA-S) will look to win its third US Youth National Championships, a feat that has been achieved by only four teams in US Youth Soccer history. The three-time Region IV Champions will feature a slew of U.S. Youth National Team players and National Championship Series award winners with the hope of claiming the elusive third National Championship.

FCKC Pink Panthers Elite (MO) will be one of the teams looking to prevent Legends from claiming a third national title, as the back-to-back Region II Champions finished second in the National League Red Division and support an attack led by Kassidy Newsom, who in addition to being the leading scorer in the National League and Region II Championships, was named to the 2015 National Championships Best XI team.

Carlsbad Elite 99 (CA-S) was the only undefeated team in the age group during the previous National League season and will look to improve on its two previous performances at the National Championships, where the Southern California side failed to advance out of group play.

CUP Gold 99/00 (OH-S) rounds out Group A as the two-time Ohio-South State Cup winners advanced to the National Championships for the first time as the Region II representatives.

The goal is to finish first or second in the group and advance to the semifinal on Saturday (after a rest day Friday). A positive finish there leads to the Final on Sunday. All games are part of my St Louis Soccer calendar. You can follow game details at US Youth Soccer

There are over 100 games being streamed this week. On Wednesday at 7:30 am the two Group A games will be streamed live. A link is provided in the schedule below.

The semifinal features La Roca who were finalists at last years National Tournament. FCKC faced La Roca in group play last year, losing 0-5, and finishing 1-2. The teams then faced each other in December in National League play, a 1-2 loss this time as Kassidy Newsom scored two minutes into the 2nd half but La Roca got goals in the 64th and 73rd for the win. The two teams finished with identical 5-1-1 records in the league with La Roca taking first (head-to-head and GD) while FCKC also qualified for Nationals with their second place finish. They’ll renew their rivalry for the opportunity to face the winner of Carlsbad Elite vs Florida Krush in the Final on Sunday.

Today’s game against the two-time defending age group champions will determine the 2nd place position in the group and the chance to advance to the semifinals. A draw is all that is necessary for FCKC to advance due to goal differential – their 2-0 win over CUP vs Legend’s 1-0 win the difference.

Under-16 Girls: FCKC Pink Panthers Elite (MO) 0-1 Carlsbad Elite 99 (CA-S)
Carlsbad Elite 99 (CA-S) earned their second win of the 2016 National Championships as they defeated FCKC Pink Panthers Elite (MO), 1-0. Carlsbad’s goal started from a cross that was sent high into the 18-yard box for Emily Knepler to tap the ball in. Note – it was high and floated but Fennewald got a hand on it but could not hold it, nor was it cleared before Knepler got to it.
