Soccer On TV For Thanksgiving

There is plenty of action this week to keep you energized and ready for second helpings, or as an excuse to step away for awhile during the many gatherings. So here is the Soccer on TV details you need.

It starts off with Champions League action on Tuesday and Wednesday, Europa League on Thursday and Bundesliga and English Premier League (EPL) this weekend. There are also Major League Soccer (MLS) conference playoff games on Tuesday and Sunday and the US Women have advanced to the knockout round of the U20 Women’s World Cup, led by Mallory Pugh.

There will also be College playoff action this weekend with SIUE, Washington University and Rockhurst advancing. All of these broadcast games can be found in my Soccer on TV calendar.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Tuesday and Wednesday
Tuesday’s games lack a ‘big game’ to point to but there are plenty of key results that can come, with Sevilla offering a third La Liga team with a chance to advance to the knockout round with a win against Serie A leaders Juventus. Tottenham Hotspur need three points against Monaco to remain in contention after a horrible October. Leicester need only a draw against Club Brugge to advance in another improbable run.

Wednesday offers Arsenal v Paris Saint-Germain playing for the top spot while Celtic and Barcelona renew acquaintances in Glasgow. Will it be 2012 and Celtic’s 2-1 win or more of the same when Celtic lost 0-7 at Barcelona at the start of Group play? More details on these and the other matches at UEFA.com

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER Tuesday and Sunday
Tuesday features a pair of Conference Finals, which will be decided in a home-and-away model. These first legs feature the Eastern Conference Final Leg 1 – Montreal v Toronto on ESPN and the Western Conference Final Leg 1 – Seattle v Colorado on Fox Sports 1. The second leg for the Western Conference is on Sunday afternoon.

U20 WOMEN’S WORLD CUP Thursday and Friday
The tournament has reached the Quarterfinals and the USA has advanced to face Mexico on Friday morning (or Thursday night at midnight, depending on how you want it delivered). The U.S. U-20 Women’s National Team looks to win its fourth U-20 Women’s World Cup at the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea if things go as planned. It’s also a pipeline to the full USWNT with nine members of the U.S. team that won the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup also won a U-20 Women’s World Cup, including Lori Chalupny. EUROPA LEAGUE Thursday
Big, big game for José Mourinho who faces a doomsday scenario in Group A on matchday five; if Manchester United lose to Feyenoord for a second time, and Fenerbahçe win against Zorya, the Red Devils’ maiden UEFA Europa League group stage campaign will be dead in the water. Does anything else even matter 🙂 If so, here are the other games of interest

BUNDESLIGA, LA LIGA and EPL Friday – Sunday
The big game Saturday is Chelsea v Tottenham while Borussia Dortmund, coming off their big win v Bayern Munich last weekend, will face Eintracht Frankfurt with Bayer Leverkusen facing Bayern Munchen. Sunday I think it’s Everton (7th) v Southampton (11th) that will entice. Depending on how things go Thursday for Manchester United, their match against West Ham United Sunday could be interesting!
