A pair of goals midway through the second half, by Maddie Pokorny (Webster Groves) and Emma Farley (Howell Central, celebrating above) gave the SLU Billikens a 2-0 win over the Iowa Hawkeye’s at Hermann Stadium this afternoon.

With Pokorny and Alyssa Seitzer (St. Teresa’s) playing outside midfield roles in a 4-2-3-1 system, the insertion of Farley up top created an attacking crew that proved to be to hard to handle. Pokorny created her own opportunity on the first goal, picking up a partially cleared ball 35 yards out and going straight to goal, scoring to the back post as she entered the box.
Farley scored soon afterwards when Pokorny sent Seitzer in, after her run across the top of the box. Beating her defender to the endline, Seitzer’s square ball through the six yard box was finished by Farley who handled a bouncing ball reliably, one-timing it just inside the upright.
Alli Klug (Nerinx Hall) got the call to partner with Carli Bond (Howell North) at center back today while Courtney Reimer (Duchesne) moved up from defensive midfield responsibilities in the Fall to play as the attacking mid today.
Mary Niehaus continued her strong play in goal, controlling the box. That included a hard tackle outside the box that drew a yellow card as well as winning a pair of challenges in the box that saw the Hawkeye player walk away dazed.
SLU’s next home game is March 25th when they host Butler.
