The SLU Men’s soccer team were opportunistic on Monday night when facing Saint Louis FC, grabbing a 1-0 win on Spencer Jones goal midway through the second half. Jones intercepted an errant back pass by the STLFC left back and slotted past the on-rushing goalkeeper to score. It was one of two good opportunities he had in front of the net as the freshman from SLUH paired with sophomore Anthony Brown (Belleville West) to give the Billiken’s a very fast front line as the team out-shot STLFC 4-2.

Saint Louis FC featured a number of trialist (without numbers) following their USL exhibition match the previous day in Springfield, MO. The Club did identify a starting X (not XI) that included new signee Ryan Howe in midfield (defending here I believe) as well as Adam Grinwis in goal.

Missing from the XI was Tyler David who began in back, paired with Austin Ledbetter (SIUE/CBC). Once David moved into a defensive midfield role STLFC were able to set the tone for the majority of the game but it was to little effective result as the Billiken defense were able to clog the middle. Despite that posture, STLFC never reliably attacked into the corner as their backs would regularly stop their run and pull the ball back. It was left to the Billiken’s to show some flair, through Saadiq Mohammed and Brazilian Leo Novaes (pictured above).
A final note – I think this is Preki’s son which also makes him responsible for the errant back pass.
