In a tight game with few real opportunities for either side, it was the Triad Knights who handled the pressure of penalty kicks, winning 4-3 after going to the seventh kicker Saturday at Edwardsville High School. The winning PK was taken by freshman Sierra Schlemmer after Mercedes King made her second straight stop in the sudden death round. He shot to the left was just beyond the keepers reach and the celebration was on. Pictures are uploading now. I’ll be back with more details but now it’s off to the USL exhibition match at SLU.

The player of the match for me, above and beyond King’s second half and OT heroics (Madisyn Stauffer had the shutout in the first half) was senior sweeper Morgan Bohnenstiehl. My interview with her post-game
