Following a loss to the SLU Billikens (0-1) and a scoreless draw in Springfield against Energy FC, fans of Saint Louis FC are asking when/where are the goals going to come from. The 0-3 loss to Tulsa, a team they beat 7-1 last season, displayed to my eyes the lack of a creative scorer capable of winning the 1v1 battles necessary to break down defenses, especially when Tulsa regularly had 7 or more defenders back. The win against Swope Park Rangers in Columbia was nice but it’s worth noting that SPR are pursuing a much different path than STLFC. Rather than “needing to win” they see the team as a development platform, adding seven Academy players to the roster at the beginning of March.
Yes it's still preseason, & yes Preki teams take a while to gel…but goddamnit that was dreadful. #STLFC

Will winning have an effect on the April 4th vote for the Transportation and Stadium proposals that are needed to move the Major League Soccer franchise opportunity forward? How much pressure will there be on Preki and the team to win the two games leading up to the vote?
An additional note – this game was promoted as an #MLS2STL ‘preview’, noting fans who dislike traveling to Fenton and interested in a City-based tea. I’d estimate attendance at less than half capacity, thus between 2500 and 3000 (check the photos). Not bad by pre-season standards but given the lack of certainty surrounding the vote, it didn’t offer and great news. Of course, that will just ensure the crew doesn’t take anything for granted going into the vote in 16 days.
The team opens the season next Saturday, March 25 at Louisville FC. Game time is 1pm. They’ll have three busloads of fans there to help. The home opener will be the following week, Saturday April 1 against the Ottawa Fury. Game time is 7:30 pm. There has been news about the home opener being a rally for the vote but I can’t find any details on the STLFC website to share with you. Maybe call the office?
