The Granite City Warriors shook off their two game losing streak Tuesday, the only losses in what is now a 9-2 season, and defeated Southwest Conference (SWC) rivals Belleville East in a 4-0 shutout.

The Warriors opened the scoring 42 seconds into the match when senior Grace Neidhardt finished a cross from sophomore Megan Jones, on a play started by sophomore Rian Hutson in the middle. It’s the type of combination that has propelled the team to their strong start, with six sophomores regularly starting, joined by juniors Maya Ware (RB) and Viktoria Johnson (GK) and seniors Lexi Grote (F), Grace Neidhardt (F) and Kendyl Pritchett (LB).
Lined up in the traditional 4-4-2 that the Warriors have made their own, it’s a very hungry crew. While Belleville was able to hold them to the single goal in the first half, the Warrior’s pressure got them a second goal by sophomore Megan Jones.
The Lancers had difficulty establishing any rhythm in the first half but started the second half well, moving the ball like I saw them do during the Metro Cup earlier in the season. They are coming off a string of four losses in the last five games however and the frustration shows for a team with high expectations.
