The teams are slowly being whittled down with District and Regional high school soccer playoffs continuing. Finals are being contested today through Friday so that is driving my plans for coverage. I’ve got the only coverage of the statewide action in Missouri for those of you looking forward to the State Finals. All of the games can be found on my St. Louis Soccer Calendar out to the State Finals in both Illinois and Missouri.
The Sectional and Regional title games are determined except for the Waterloo and Quincy games. Waterloo is the favorite and host for their double-header tonight, leading to Regional title game Friday. Granite City is hosting fellow SWC opponent Alton tonight for the opportunity to face Collinsville in the 3A Regional match. Could it get moved to this area from Quincy yet?

A significant match up today as the #1 state-ranked team – St. Joe – hosts #2 state-ranked Nerinx Hall in their District 8 Final. They met April 24th in a game that ended 3-2 in St. Joe’s favor, with Nerinx Hall battling back from an 0-2 deficit to tie the game, only to see Emily Burton break their hearts in the 78th minute with her game winner.

Class 3 also delivers a significant match today as the District 4 Final will feature #5 Westminster at #9 Visitation. They played March 24th with All-American Kirsten Davis (Texas Tech) scoring the only goal, on an assist by Sydney Walker (SLU). The Wildcats rattled off 11 straight wins (Viz was their second) before losing 0-1 to Ladue who will likely battle IWA in a Sectional next week. Westminster is now 18-1 to Visitations 9-9. Webster Groves needed a late goal by defender Isabel Burke to get past the Vivette’s two weeks ago.
The winner will face off against #2 Webster Groves or #4 Summit who play tomorrow in the District 3 Final. One of those four teams will likely be representing St. Louis in Kansas City this year.

I’d say that the Notre Dame vs Lutheran South game looks to be the most interesting locally. The Rebels reached the Final Four last year but their group is pretty competitive. They won an early April match 2-1 and now sit at 10-11 while the Lancers are 9-13.

The Kennedy Celtics hope to extend their season as they celebrate the legacy of the school that will close following this semester. They’ll face a stiff task against Principia, the only state-ranked team in Class 1 from the St Louis area (except for a couple votes Trinity has received). Good luck ladies!
