Enjoyable afternoon Friday where I caught several matches, an opportunity for the boys to do some training with varying amounts of pressure. For example, Glendale took a lot of input from the boys on lineups and let them play. Alternately, Olathe East spent the final 5 minutes of their match against Summit playing the ball to the corners to protect their lead. Me, I worked on shaking off the rust and experimented with a video camera to see about getting back to offering more highlight clips (see 1st below), which was the way I started back in 2005. Here are STLVSS pictures and I’ll offer a brief synopsis that is limited by the lack of rosters. If anyone wants to help ID players for their teams, contact me and we’ll get some free low-resolution pics up for the boys in return for your help.
NOTE – I’ll be back to finish the Team Synopsis later today, too nice to stay in for now 🙂

Rockwood Summit are the defending State Class 3 Champions and they brought two teams to get everyone minutes. The two most significant graduation losses for the Falcons are GK Peter Baker (Rockhurst) and central midfielder Colin Hilpert (SIUE), both 1st team All-State picks. and I caught the Maroon team where I saw Lucas Morefield, a junior and Baker’s back up last year. Sr. Matthew Kogut was working hard in the central midfield (in the background here), a move inward after playing as a forward/wing last year. Senior attacker Billy Hency who was named an NSCAA All-American and the Gatorade Player of the Year for his efforts in 2016 is joined by sr. Corey Goede as key returners. Both players are four year varsity members as well as being club teammates on the Sporting STL team coached by Tommy Howe that has won three straight state cup titles.
For Olathe East, this lad stood out in his defensive midfield role.
A St. Charles derby of sorts,
