The Missouri High School Soccer Coaches Association (MSHSSCA) have released their Third regular season poll of the season. I’ll break down what the High School Soccer Coaches Poll means for you below.
A new team at the top of the polls in Class 4 while Summit and Burroughs continue at the top of Class 3 and Class 2 respectively.
The Rockhurst Hawklets have worked their way to the top of the table as the season moves into the final three weeks for the large school classes (3 and 4). Rockhurst shut out Lee’s Summit 4-0 two weeks ago, part of a season that includes a 46-4 goal differential with eight shutouts. Unbeaten streak broken with an 0-5 loss to Marquette (WI) last week but bounced back with a 3-0 win over Regis (CO), both at Rockhurst last weekend. They are in Burlington IA this week for the tournament there, opening against Collinsville today, and return to compete in the Jeff City games next weekend.
SLUH lost their first matches of the season, to Kirkwood in the CYC tournament and to CBC Wednesday evening which appear to be reflected in this poll. Smith-Cotton won at the Kickapoo Tournament last week, we’ll see how well October treats them. For Kirkwood, who travels to Columbia this weekend for the Rock Bridge Invitational, a need to shake off a surprising 1-4 loss to Webster Groves in their local derby Wednesday.
UPDATE – Smith-Cotton wins 2-0 over Lee’s Summit on Thursday
|10||Lee's Summit North||10-4||16||10|
Others: Smith-Cotton 15, Eureka 9, Ft Zumwalt West 7, Ft Osage 4.
No hiccups for the Falcons in September and they’ll face #9 Zumwalt South this afternoon, with wins over St Dominic (3-0) and Eureka (4-0) recently. They’ll face #2 Glendale at Rock Bridge Saturday and #5 Ladue next week. A schedule that allows all of us a good view of where teams fit in this table I’d say. The Crusaders have both SLUH and DeSmet on their schedule coming up, along with Zumwalt South, as they prepare for the playoffs.
|9||Ft. Zumwalt South||8-5||41||4|
Others: Webster Groves 22, Parkway Central 7, Platte County 7, Cape Central 3.
Burroughs only loss came against DeSmet two weeks ago but got their second straight win over Priory (both 1-0) in their last game. They’ll face St. Mary’s, Chaminade and Parkway Central next week. Bayless is feeling confident and will need that as both Cape Notre Dame and St. Pius are part of their Quarterfinal challenge. Burroughs have Priory in their Sectional group and St. Charles West or O’Fallon Christian likely waiting in the Quarterfinal.
|1||John Burroughs (13)||12-1||130||1|
