Former women’s soccer star Tessa Gavilsky has been selected as the latest member of the Stetson Athletics Hall of Fame. She will be honored along with PGA Tour member Sam Ryder during ceremonies as part of Homecoming Weekend on Friday, Nov. 3, at the Wayne Sanborn Center in DeLand.
Gavilsky (2007-10) finished her career at Stetson as the program’s all-time leader in every major offensive category: goals (34), assists (29) and total points (97). The two-time ASUN Offensive Player of the Year (2008, 2009), Gavilsky was a three-time, first-team All-ASUN selection.
During her career, she set the program record for points in a season with 28 in 2008, and broke her own record the next season with 30 points.
Gavilsky has enjoyed a successful professional career since graduating from Stetson in 2011, playing mostly in Europe. She won a pair of Swedish First Division championships with Mallbackens IF, and spent part of last season with the NWSL’s Houston Dash.
Gavilsky graduated from Granite City in 2007. During her four-year soccer career with the Warriors, Gavilsky finished with 57 goals and 64 assists, earned all-state honors twice, all-Southwestern Conference three times, received the Gatorade Illinois Girls Soccer Player of the Year award and was named on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Adidas Girls High School All-America team. She also helped the Warriors place third in the state tournament as a senior.
