St. Louis is a key market for the UPSL from a geographical standpoint as this will open the gates for many new entries in the region. St. Louis Maritsa FC has a decade of growth and success at the local and regional level, and smart leadership that knows the value of the UPSL’s Pro/Rel Model. We wish St. Louis Maritsa FC the best as it prepares to kick off in the UPSL’s Midwest Conference in 2018.”
Founded by Dr. Alexandre Todorov, St. Louis Maritsa FC men’s team has produced two recent league titles, and is partnered with UMOJA St. Louis SC, a local youth club dedicated to the underserved youth and communities of St. Louis.
St. Louis Maritsa FC General Manager Alex Todorov said, “For the competitive adult player there’s not that much, and the UPSL will afford that opportunity to local players who are of a certain ability and age, and it’s an opportunity that kids didn’t have before in St. Louis.”
Todorov, 53, is a long-time faculty member in the Dept. of Psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis, focusing on genetic epidemiology. He received his PhD in Statistical Genetics from LSU MC.
“We’re proud to be a St. Louis city team, and joining the UPSL really expands our possibilities so geographically we won’t be as isolated as we used to be,” Todorov said. “That’s going to be a major advantage for the club and the players.”
Stefan St. Louis, the head coach of the men’s team at Harris-Stowe University, will serve as the team’s head coach. St. Louis, 32, is a native of Trinidad & Tobago and plays for St. Louis Ambush (MASL). St. Louis also runs Camps for Sporting STL.
