CBC – kicked off the week with a controlling 3-0 halftime lead vs. Lindbergh (goals by Craig McLaurine (2) and Dimitri Sanchez), only to hold off a late Flyer rally for a 3-2 victory. They continued the winning with a 2-0 victory over Priory (goals by Julius Adewumni in the first half and Anthony Caruso in the second half; shutout by Nate Griffin) before traveling to Granite City and defeating the Warriors 3-0 on goals by Julius Adewumni, Devin Boyce and Dimitri Sanchez, and the shutout by Nate Griffin. Finished the week with a 1-0 defeat to Chaminade in MCC play. This week the Cadets will play qualifying matches in the CYC Tournament versus Mehlville (Monday), O’Fallon (Tuesday) and St. Mary’s (Thursday).
Chaminade – on Wednesday hosted Collinsville and earned a 5-3 victory on goals by Curtis Shillingsford, Jordan Bay, Jason Pesek (2) and Tim Weber. Traveled to CBC on Saturday and defeated the Cadets 1-0 (goal byJordan Bay; shutout by Eric Fletcher) to kick off the MCC season. The Red Devils will play in the CYC Tournament at the Soccer Park this coming week, with qualifying matches against Lindbergh (Tuesday), Trinity (Wednesday) and Howell Central (Thursday).
Desmet – traveled to Eureka on Tuesday and came from behind to beat the Wildcats 2-1 in OT, on goals by Joey Wiele (six minutes remaining) and the game winner by Justin Abernathy (five minutes into overtime). Back on the road to Summit on Thursday in a defensive chess match, Desmet came out on top 1-0 on a goal by Kevin Lewman with three minutes remaining (shutout by Jake Koenig). This week the Spartans host Marquette (Tuesday) and John Burroughs (Thursday) before traveling to Chicago to take on St. Viator on Friday and Loyola Academy on Saturday.
SLUH – facing Webster Groves at home on Tuesday, the Jr. Bills fell behind but evened the score late in the match on a goal by Nick Kocisak and prodcued the game winner in OT from Zach Hoffman in a 2-1 victory. On Saturday the Jr. Bills hosted small school power St. Dominic and pulled out a 1-0 win (goal by Ben Modde and shutout by Jack Robinson). SLUH also participates in the CYC Tournament this week with matches against Timberland (Monday), Oakville (Wednesday) and Kirkwood (Thursday).
Vianney – started on the right foot with a 3-1 victory over Waterloo Gibault, with a first half goal by Ryan Murphy and second half goals by Hayden Sparrow and Mike Albes, followed by a 3-1 victory over Parkway Central (goals by Blake Smugala, Will Brockmeyer and Kyle Barnes) on Tuesday, before ending the week at home vs. Oakville with a 2-0 win (both goals by Ryan Murphy; shutout by Michael Allen). The Griffins this week also take part in the CYC Tournament and will play Rock Bridge (Monday), Duchesne (Tuesday) and Webster Groves (Wednesday). Vianney now has a twitter account for all of the Golden Griffin fans who are taking advantage of the tool to stay up-to-date on their favorite teams.
The latest STL Today rankings have the following MCC schools: Chaminade (1), CBC (2), Desmet (7), Vianney (9) and SLUH (on the bubble). In the initial Missouri State High School Soccer Coaches Association (MSHSSCA) state rankings, it is Chaminade (1), CBC (4) and Desmet (10). Finally, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America have Chaminade at #3 nationally (#1 in Region VII) and CBC at #7 in Region VII.
