Futura Academy Forte (MO) secured a spot in the National Championship with a second place finish in the National League Blue Division this past Spring. Futura was the only team in the group to go undefeated with a 4-0-3 record, and scored the second most goals in the blue division with 12.
Futura fell in the semifinals of the Missouri State Cup last November, losing to JB Marine Schneider in PK’s after a 1-1 draw through regulation and overtime. In an indication of how strong the age group is here in Missouri, JBM Schneider went 2-0-1 against Futura during the past year, coming off their State title as U14’s. The state title was won this year by Lou Fusz Wipke. (PHOTO GALLERY)
The team, who won the Missouri title in 2012 as U13’s, reached the Regional semifinals in 2013 that they qualified for via Midwest Regional League (MRL) where they finished first in their Division. That was also the route that qualified them for National League where they finished second overall with 15 points from four wins and three draws. A pair of tournaments, in early December and over the New Year holidays meant they had to wait until everyone finished in late March but the results were positive.
Their first two opponents this week – Pride Predators (CO) and Tophat Gold (GA) also played in the National League, finishing with 14 and 12 points respectively. The four teams in the other half of the bracket all played in the National League with Eastside FC (WA) earning the top spot with 18 points from six wins and a single loss – coming at the hands of Futura in the second group game in early December – as the girls came back from 0-1 in the 20th minute with a pair of second half goals.
From the July US Youth Soccer TV Show, a nice video interview with the team
The team is coached by Brad Childers, who in addition to being a founder of Futura Southland, is also the Women’s Head Coach for the MCC-Blue River Trailblazers, who compete against STLCC Meramec and St Charles CC in the NJCAA Missouri Region.
You can follow the team on Twitter at @FuturaSouthland and I’ll also be sharing results as they come in.
Good luck ladies!
