The Final in the CYC Msgr. Louis Meyer Division Saturday will feature the SLUH Jr. Billikens against the Webster Grove Statesmen. The game will be played at 8:00 pm on Field #1 at the St Louis Soccer Park. SLUH will wear home whites.
The CBC Cadets took an early lead when Senior Jake Meyerkord finished his chance in the 14th, from service provided by Kurt Gerteisen. Webster tied the match in the first half when Antoine Givens touched a ball past the goalkeeper from Mick Hanrahan’s dead ball service. Hanrahan would deliver again in the 2nd overtime when Trey Paloucek got his head onto a 35 yard ball to the back post. I chatted with Paloucek post-game, you can hear it below.
SLUH came out with a desire to show that the opening game loss to Chaminade was not how their team would be measured. They accomplished that with a 2-0 win over the Red Devils that saw a pair of late goals send them through. The first was scored by Clark Conway on an individual effort in the 37th minute, with a bending shot from the top of the box. Elliott Boerding got the second in the 83rd as he flicked a ball over the keepers head for the final margin.
HOW DID THEY GET HERE
SLUH opened with a tough 2-1 win over Kirkwood before clobbering Oakville 7-0 on Wednesday. The 3-0 win against Belleville West sends them through with 14 points.
Webster Groves won 4-3 Monday against St Mary’s in a back and forth affair before seeing Rock Bridge come back to tie them 2-2 on Tuesday. Wednesday’s shutout of Collinsville (2-0) sends them through with 11 points while Collinsville finished second with 6.
