Some notes from around the area:
Annie Beekman has resigned from her position as Head Coach at Ursuline. No news on a replacement at this stage. She is a two-time State Champion with Incarnate Word, while also reaching the Final 4 three times in her four years with the Northside squad. Her record in five seasons at Ursuline was 49-29-2, for a career record of 114-48-5. That means her 100th win was against Cor Jesu on May 5th in 2015.
She also helped make the Footprints fund-raising effort with St. Dominic an important effort for the young women on both teams and Cardinal Glennon, who benefited from the effort. She is pictured above at this years match, a win for the Bears.
Collinsville Girls Head Coach Clay Smith was named the IHSSCA Coach of the Year last week. Chicagoland Soccer offered this from their IHSSCA Banquet coverage
The Kahoks finished second in the IHSA Class 3A state tournament after falling to New Trier by a 4-0 count in the championship match on June 4 at North Central College in Naperville. Smith’s crew ended up with a stellar 22-2-2 mark overall.
“It’s never about the coach — the girls had a great year,” Smith said. “We knew we’d be a tough team to beat, and it was fun to watch the girls come together as a family — coming together as student-athletes and supporting each other. It was a very hard-working team. These girls took it to heart. They put it together on the practice field, and then started scoring goals at the right time, and continued improving defensively as well.
“I think we strongly represented soccer in the St. Louis area, and showed we can compete against the Chicago-area teams. Seeing all these accomplishments being rewarded (at the banquet), it’s an honor to be among them.”
