While Summit created the majority of the offense, the Lancers were strategic about moving forward together and ensured that the Falcon’s vaunted offense would not be given anything easy. It’s easy to see in the pictures how well prepared the Lancer’s team came in to face the hydra-like offense. While Sr. MacKenzie Litzsinger (pictured above, headed for SIUE) has 19 goals there are another 25 spread among five teammates. And pace with freshman Julia Martens (8 goals and 7 assists) on the opposite wing to really spread defenses. A lot to handle but the back line of So. Kathleen Kenny (LB), Jr. Jill Wipke (12), Sr Cameryn Brill (Sweeper, bodied up on Julia Marten’s in the pic) and Jr. Lydia Harris (RB) with So. Cassidy Klohmann playing a defensive midfield role in front, bent but didn’t break.
Both teams were missing key midfielders, Hailey Schue for Lafayette and Lily Schneiders (SLU) for Summit which impacted their offenses with Schue’s loss more significant for Layfayette’s more narrow offensive options. Summit’s reputation already proceeds them. For the Lancer’s, Coach Walter’s would prefer remaining ‘under the radar’ but his defense could get him out of a tough District that includes Eureka, Marquette and Parkway South.
