In a game moved to SportPort International turf fields due to rain earlier this week, the IWA Red Knights and St. Joe Angels still had to battle through high winds, rain and cold Monday. With the wind at their backs, the Red Knights wasted little time in opening the scoring as Olivia Layton’s driven ball was initially blocked but bounced up and into the net. They got two more midway through the half when Layton scored her second, followed a minute later by Faith Montadon. They went on to win 3-2.

St. Joe gamely fought their way back into the match with Ellen Donlin’s direct kick goal, from 30 yards out into the wind, it beat the keeper high. The Angels got one more late in the second half when Gabby Lawlor was able to hold the ball under pressure before getting her shot off just inside the upright from about 12 yards out.
It’s tough to make any assessment’s other than IWA’s succinct summary post-match.
In a game of who can score the most goals with the wind at their backs, IWA comes out on top of SJA. Goals by O.Layton (2), and F.Montandon
