The Roosevelt Roughriders are the PHL Champions for 2017. Their 9-3 win over Collegiate School of Medicine and Bioscience (CSMB) last Friday along with an earlier OT win over Soldan, send them to their first soccer title since 2010. As the athletic director notes, it is the 13th overall soccer title for the program. They wrap up their season Wednesday at North Tech as the team does not compete in MSHSAA District soccer.

The Roughriders got the scoring started early, with Ronal Semanat making a run into the box before slipping a simple ball to the back post beyond the keepers reach. He went on to score at least one more in a similar fashion but it was Gadi Harenimana who opened things up in the second half with five total goals. He was joined in the scoring column by Evin Ramos who made a splendid full field length run from his defensive position to counter and score.
The Owls got all three of their goals via #10 who roamed the field motivating his teammates and occasionally taking on every role except goalkeeper.
One item evident throughout was the joy the boys were taking in playing the beautiful game on the pitch at Gateway Stem (just North of ‘The Hill’). I may have some of the player identification incorrect since funding means I can see a pair of players with #15 and #9 jerseys for example. Feel free to send me corrections and I’ll update the report. Contact Ole UPDATE – names highlighted were updated with corrections
