Missouri State Cup Soccer Pool Play Comes to a Close

2017-10-28 by Ole

2017-10-28-AllianceFC-LouFusz-Elam-2000-StateCup-soccer-1252

Maria Haro (St. Joe) moves into the attack for Lou Fusz Elam against Alliance FC in State Cup pool play on October 28, 2017

How about a look at the four age groups and possible results in Missouri State Cup Soccer Pool Play? I look at current status after two games and offer predictions on who will advance. Some seem very apparent but there are some tight races for wild card spots in particular. Here we go…

Update – a Coach reminded me there is a maximum of 4 goals per game when calculating GD

U18 Girls (2000)

Three brackets which allows for a Wild Card team to advance. Lou Fusz Elam lost in the Final last November via PKs but are the top returning team as FCKC Academy Blues Elite did not enter this years tournament. SLSG Premier and Lou Fusz Kuehn/Stewart were semifinalists.

Bracket A: Lou Fusz Elam sits top with six points from their first two matches, and a +6 GD and are poised to advance to Finals weekend. They’ll face ISA Select Sunday who have 3 points, tied with KCSG Academy for second. A wild card spot is likely out of reach except for KCSG if they can get a big win against Alliance (see Bracket B). PHOTO GALLERY – Lou Fusz Elam v Alliance (in progress)

Bracket B:
Missouri Rush Bozesky and SLSG West are tied with six points apiece and will face off Sunday at 10:00 am on Field 4 for the bracket title. The odds are good that both teams will advance regardless of the result with goal differentials of +7 and +10 respectively, requiring KCSG in bracket A to not only win but to win by four goals.

Bracket C:
SLSG Premier is in control with six points from two wins, by 5-0 and 3-1. Lou Fusz Senter, who they face at 10am Sunday on Field 9, have four points and are within range but face a daunting task. Senter’s draw against WC STL Saturday compares to SLSG Premier’s 5-0 win against the Southside squad on Friday night. PHOTO GALLERY – SLSG Premier v SLSG Bayern Munich (in progress)

Prediction:
Lou Fusz Elam vs MO Rush/SLSG West (wild card)
Missouri Rush/SLSG West (bracket winner) vs SLSG Premier

Bozesky loses 0-1, KCSG wins 4-1 and advances as the wild card +7 to +6

U17 Girls (2001)

Three brackets which allows for a Wild Card team to advance. 2016 Champions were FCKC Academy Blues Elite, Finalist Sporting JBM Schneider along with Lou Fusz United Blue and (now) KCSG Select Academy Navy as semifinalists.

Bracket A:
No sugar coating it, the FCKC Academy Blues Elite squad is looking dominant. They’ve opened with two wins, both by 7-0 margins, and will face winless AFA Fillies Huesgen Sunday at 8:00 am. Lou Fusz Phillips Red will face AFA Fillies Wyland, hoping for three points to reach six and a possible wild card spot. Let’s see if I can sort that out below.

Bracket B:
Sporting JBM Schneider are tied with SLSG Premier with four points apiece after they opened play against each other with a scoreless draw, followed by wins. Schneider faces the tougher challenge Sunday when they face Missouri Thorns White at 8am on Field 5. Thorns have three points and a win would offer them a possible wild card spot with six points. Wins by the current leaders would put both of them through, as a Bracket winner and a Wild Card with seven points.

Bracket C:
KCSG Academy opened with a 10-0 win Friday against Lou Fusz Phillips Blue and followed that up Saturday with a 7-0 against Lou Fusz United, a fellow semifinalist last year. That’s dominant stuff. Panathinaikos rebounded from an opening loss to LF United to beat LF Phillips but will likely face a similar fate as the rest of the bracket. So United will need a win to reach six points but like the pair in Bracket A, all have negative GD. So goals scored will become significant.

Predictions:
FCKC ABE v Sporting JBM Schneider/SLSG Premier (wild card)
Sporting JBM Schneider/SLSG Premier (bracket winner) v KCSG Academy

Schneider is the wild card with a +7 GD to SLSG +8

Semi-Finals A
FC KANSAS CITY ACADEMY BLUES ELITE 01
SPORTING J. B. MARINE SC SCHNEIDER

Semi-Finals B
ST. LOUIS SCOTT GALLAGHER SC PREMIER 2001
KCSG ACADEMY NAVY 01

U16 Girls (2002)

Three brackets which allows for a Wild Card team to advance. 2016 Champions were Sporting Springfield Juventus with Panathinaikos as finalists (a 1-0 win). KFCK Academy Blues Elite and AFA Fillies were semifinalists.

Bracket A:
Tight, tight, tight. Lou Fusz O’Rourke and SLSG Premier each have six points and the teams will face off tomorrow at noon on Field 6. O’Rourke holds the advantage in goal differential at this point, +6 to +3 so a draw is in their favor. Defending champions Sporting SGF are winless in their two games and will bow out along with KCSG Academy North after Sunday.

Bracket B:
At risk of repeating myself… Panathinaikos and Lou Fusz United Preusser are tied with six points apiece and will play tomorrow at noon on Field 5. PAO hold the goal differential advantage +5 to +4 requiring a win for Lou Fusz to advance. KCSG Academy Navy and FCKC Academy Blues Premier (rather than Elite) will wrap their Cup tomorrow.

PAO & Lou Fusz tied 1-1, both should advance

Bracket C:
FCKC Academy Blues Elite are top of the table with six points and face Missouri Rush United at noon on Field 1. Rush have three points and a positive goal differential but lost to AFA Fillies 1-2 in their evening game Saturday, limiting their advancement options. Fillies face winless SLSG Bolton but start the day with a negative goal differential.

FCKC falls 3-5 to Rush, AFA wins and the three teams have six points apiece. One will advance.

Analysis – as noted above, only four goals maximum per game count towards the GD analysis. That put AFA Fillies at +3 while FCKC and Rush were both at +4. The tie-breaker then went to Rush in the head-to-head with their win over FCKC on Sunday.

Predictions:
LF O’Rourke/SLSG Premier winner v Wild Card (several)
PAO/LF United winner v FCKC Academy Blues Elite

Semi-Finals A
ST. LOUIS SCOTT GALLAGHER SC PREMIER 2002
LOU FUSZ SC – PREUSSER – UNITED BLUE 02

Semi-Finals B
PANATHINAIKOS PAO FC – 2002 RDA
MISSOURI RUSH SC MO RUSH 2002G UNITED

U15 Girls (2003)

16 teams and four brackets. Nice and neat. Played as U14’s this Summer. the Champion was FCKC Academy Blues Elite who defeated SLSG Premier 3-2 in the final. Missouri Rush United and Sporting Lee’s Summit Pink Panthers were semifinalists.

Bracket A:
The SLSG Premier girls are in control following wins in their two matches Saturday by matching 3-0 scores. They face SLSG Bayern Munich with a point from their 2-2 draw against Sporting STL Red Devils, at 2pm on Field 9. Lou Fusz Senter won their second match and sit in second with 3 points but even with a win, they lose the head-to-head tie breaker to SLSG Premier.

Bracket B:
The bracket will be decided Sunday when Missouri Rush United face STL Hawks at 2pm on Field 7. Rush have a pair of wins and six points but Hawks could advance with a win following their win and draw on Saturday. I’ll be on hand for this one. Sporting JBM Garabedian and KCSG Academy bow out after Sunday.

Bracket C:
This bracket could go in a couple of directions. While FCKC Academy Blues Real lead with six points from their first two games, they’ll face Lou Fusz Sanfilippo Sunday on Field 10 needing a draw or better to guarantee that they advance. In the other bracket game, AFA Fillies, also with three points, face winless WC St. Louis. They need help from Sanfilippo after losing their opening game 0-1 to FCKC. With head-to-head going to FCKC as a result, they need a Sanfilippo win (putting them at 6 points) and they need a win to gain the goal differential advantage over FCKC, with both at +5 currently.

Bracket D:
With a pair of teams tied at 6 points, the 2pm match between Summit SC Premier and Lou Fusz Phillips/Klinge (Field 1) will determine who advances to face the Missouri Rush/STL Hawks winner in two weeks. Sporting SGF Roma and FKC Academy Blues United will wrap their Cup play looking for their first points.

Predictions:
SLSG Premier vs FCKC ABE
Missouri Rush/STL Hawks vs Summit Premier/Lou Fusz Phillips/Klinge

Semi-Finals A
ST. LOUIS SCOTT GALLAGHER SC PREMIER 2003
LOU FUSZ SC – PHILLIPS/KLINGE

Semi-Finals B
MISSOURI RUSH SC MO RUSH 2003G UNITED
FCKC ACADEMY BLUES REAL 03
