The 2018 USYF Midwest Regional Championship opens today for the somewhat mis-named United States Youth Futsal (a private organization only affiliated with US Soccer). The tournament, being held at the Lamborghini Gold Coast Athletic Center in St. Charles and the C4 facility in Ladue, provides an opportunity to qualify for the USYF National Championship in February that will be held near Kansas City.
I’ll be on hand in St. Charles on Saturday and Sunday to check out the action. I’m without my camera (it’s in the shop being repaired) but I hope to offers some video highlights. There are 18 area teams that are competing, listed below. I have two teams in particular I’ll be looking to cover. If you are playing, feel free to reach out via @SoccerSTL to let me know about your team.
Ian Drake at US Youth Futsal National ID Camp in KC on July 8, 2016
Ian Drake, a member of the STLFC 2003 Academy team, is a guest player with the Sports Tutor (2002 & 2003), a dedicated futsal organization in Kentucky that he’s been working with for a couple of years now. I’ve got some videos of Ian below, showing his footwork skills that are key result of futsal training for all players. I attempt to avoid hyperbole on this site but I can say that I started following Ian’s development several years ago. If you want a measuring stick for your child’s opportunity, come out for a game.
In addition, I’m looking forward to seeing goalkeeper Andrew Crittenden and his Lou Fusz 2006 ManU Weber squad. Andrew was part of the USYF National Training program earlier this month that took him to Canada where he trained and competed on the 2006 squad. Schedule ->

Saturday evening opener was a 4-7 loss to Derby City followed by 2-9 to Madison Futsal. Sunday a 10-2 loss to Addison United.
As United CC Coach Scott Blake (also Jeff City Head Coach) noted, while succeeding in Futsal in Branson and Boonville this season, the level of competition here was significantly better and will offer a good lesson for the boys going into the Spring outdoor season. Much like his efforts to keep the schedule tough, opening with CBC the past several years, it’s a necessary requirement for teams to grow.
