The team has announced Open Tryouts on February 24th as well as their first two player signings, both alumni of TGSC. Mary Niehaus, a Goalkeeper who just her career with Saint Louis University. She is joined by Raquel Rodriguez, who finished her first season as a Sophomore Midfielder for Southwest Baptist University in 2017. Both played for the St. Louis Lions Super Y team that placed 3rd in Nationals in 2013.
A short chat with a key Club member regarding the team indicated that the goal is developmental, providing a path for women both within TGSC and others in the community. So while Fire and Ice features as many post-college players as current college players, the Lions will likely be more heavily focused on college players, much like their Men’s PDL team. I’ll still hold out hope that TGSC and SLU alum Cristina Rodriguez joins her sister Raquel on the team.
