Congratulations to the SLSG 2002 Elite Amlong boys of St. Louis Scott Gallagher SC who return to the USYSA National Soccer Championship Series, the country’s most prestigious national youth soccer tournament. The 2018 US Youth Soccer National Championships are being held July 23-29 at the Toyota Soccer Center in Frisco, Texas. SLSG 2002 Elite Amlong Return To USYSA National Tournament
The team will play three group games, beginning Tuesday and finishing Thursday. Their game Tuesday will be live streamed, beginning at 7am. A link along with schedule and their results can be found below.
This team was created in November 2016 as SLSG made the move to calendar year teams across the remainder of their competitive teams. They were admitted to National League for 2016-2017 on the basis of the earlier team capturing the State Cup title that Summer. Despite the team not having any competitive league play under their belts, they were able to advance by finishing second in their National League division, going undefeated in their first national competitive effort (5-0-2). SLSG ended on a high note, as it handed Red Division Champion Midwest United FC 02 Royal (MI) its only loss of the season on the final day of play. They will face Midwest United in their final group game on Wednesday. If the two National League qualifiers perform as expected, they’ll likely both be headed for the semifinals that day. If…
The National League provides a pathway for four teams per gender age group to qualify for the US Youth Soccer National Championships, sending the top finishers in each division of the 14U through 18U Boys and Girls age groups to compete for the National title. In 2017, nine of a possible 10 National Championship titles were won by National League teams.
The team went on to capture the State Cup title in 2017 with a dramatic stoppage time goal by Devin Livingstone (FZS) in the second overtime. Their opponent in that match, JB Marine Mann, were the winners in the 2018 State Cup Final as they scored on a direct kick goal in overtime to win.
That left SLSG home for Regionals this year as they finished preparations for the return to the National Championship tournament.
Look for the team to come out in a 4-2-3-1 and the following lineup
Forward – Devin Livingstone #34
Midfielders – Adam Lucas #14, Kyle Weihold #8, Riley Dubbs #37
Defensive midfielders – Cole Hutson #66, Trenton Dietiker #15
Defenders – Nathan Murillo #24, Donald Ross #4, Quinn Braeckel #12, Ben MacInnes #10
GK – Evan Hofer #0
Playing 5 games in 6 days requires plenty of depth and players like Tilahun Murphy #9 at forward, Marko Anic #7 and Gavin Kalish #6 at defensive midfield while Nicholas Merlo and Malik Maroney also saw significant minutes in the matches I covered this season. There are seven photo galleries available below for fans.
2017 National Championship Series, lost in the semifinal on a late goal to the eventual Champions Solar Stricker
Missouri State Cup Champions in 2016 & 17, losing in OT in 2018 to JB Marine Mann
2016-17 National League Red: Runner-up (5-0-2), advancing to Nationals
2017-18 National League Blue: Champions (5-0-1), advancing to Nationals
2017 MRL Premiere Division 1 – 1st place with an 8-0-1 record
2018 MRL Premier Division 1 – 5th place as they drew with each of the four teams who finished above them while going 1-1 against the bottom two teams

Goals: Devin Livingstone, Trenton Dietiker (2)
SLSG are sitting in 2nd place after two games and face Midwest United who are winless, thus negating my expected outcome going into group play. Still an important game as they need to match or exceed Arlington’s results. Assuming NCFC come out and get their third straight win, then a draw is sufficient. A win by Arlington and SLSG creates a three way tie with 6 points and GD likely determining the outcome. SLSG sits third in that category right now.
Trenton Dietiker scored a brace in the first half but NCFC came back with three in the second half to win, including two that were apparently scored in stoppage time.
SLSG Boys 02 lose a heartbreaker up 2- 1 to North Carolina only to give up 2 goals in last 3 min of regulation tough one to swallow!! Win tomorrow will put the boys through to semis pic.twitter.com/fZJWYDdzdu

The boys got the game-winner in the 62nd minute from Devin Livingstone (FZS) who collected a loose ball outside the box, moved from R to L across the top and unleashed a curler into the top left hand corner. Video of the match below is set to start a minute before the goal, check it out for yourself.
North Carolina FC won over Midwest United 3-2, scoring a pair early but Midwest United had tied the game by halftime. So GD +1 for the two current leaders. SLSG faces NCFC Wednesday.
The roster has changed from last year with seven new players – Braeckel, Dietiker, Dubbs, Kalish, Herrmann, Keating and Murphy. The first three, as noted in the sample lineup above, have cracked the starting lineup.
