Congratulations to the FCKC 2001 Academy Blues Elite team who will play in the U17 Girls USYSA National Title game on Sunday morning. They will play against Rebels Elite (CA-S), the team they beat in the first game of bracket play, coming back from 0-2 to win on Madilyn Hamline’s 89th minute winner. Rebels Elite advanced as the second place team in the bracket with FCKC and then went on to win 1-0 today over Premier Navy (MD) on a 33rd minute goal.

The Blue’s won 5-2 today against the team they beat 3-2 in the Midwest Regional semifinal, where they scored three and then gave up a pair, before holding on for the win. Today’s win started similarly, with Lily Farkas and Madilyn Hamline scoring in the 17th and 19th minute respectively while Lily got her second in the 43rd minute to enter halftime with a 3-0 lead. TFA scored goals in the 56th and 60th minute to get within one yet again but despite appearances during that period, FCKC were ready. Hamline made certain the team would advance when she completed her hat-trick with goals in the 74th and 86th minute, both breakaways she easily slotted past the keeper. USYSA Story
The girls are the first team from their club KC Athletics (formerly FC KC Juniors and Futura) to reach the National Final. The 1998 Futura Forte Elite girls made it to the U16 Girls semifinal in 2015, losing to eventual champion JCS. The last National Champion from Missouri was the U16 St. Louis SC girls in 2005 that included Drea Barklage, Blake Miller and Claire Lovercheck, who is the WPSL Lion’s Goalie Coach among other coaching gigs. From my story in 2005 about the game:
Amelia Beger jumped higher than the pack for the header in the 80th minute to claim the Kristine Lilly Cup over PDA Power, 1:0.
Congratulations to the STLSC U15 girls for winning the USYSA National Championship 1-0 vs PDA Power from New Jersey. Amelia Beger jumped higher than the pack for the header in the 80th minute, scoring the winning goal in the first overtime period to give STLSC their 14th National title. Blake Miller won the Golden Boot award which is given to the most valuable player in the tournament. Claire Lovercheck won the goal keeper of the tournament award. The team was coached by Blake’s father Gary Miller.
Other Missouri girls national champions are from JB Marine SC, the 1991 U19’s and the 1993 U16 girls.
