The move to four classes in 2014 created previously unexplored paths to the State Finals for a number of programs in the St. Louis region. In Class 3, Webster Groves (twice), Summit and Parkway Central went on to capture the Class 3 title. At the same time, the four mile trip between Ft. Zumwalt South and St. Dominic has helped create one of the more scintillating derbies in the area with the teams meeting in Sectionals all four years. St. Dominic captured the Class 2 title in 2013. In 2014 South won the Sectional enroute to reaching the Semifinals, something they accomplished again in 2016 while St. Dominic reached the Final in 2015, losing to Webster Groves. Last year (2017) the Bulldogs lost in the Quarterfinal round to eventual champion Parkway Central. Ft. Zumwalt South Wins at St. Dominic

New District alignments mean that this year the teams will face off in the District final (sorry FZE and Hannibal), hosted by St. Dominic. Given the atmosphere at Thursday’s game and the large traveling crowd that South brought with them, it will offer an atmosphere that will match any MCC playoff game.
I’m traveling this weekend and need to head out. I’ll complete the game report during some downtime later today.
