The final weekend of National League competition opens Friday in Las Vegas and one St. Louis team will be represented. Lou Fusz 2005 Geerling, the Missouri State Cup champion showcased stout defense to win its group at the US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional Championships last June before dropping a close semifinal match. That earned them their slot at National League, with their first weekend of competition coming in December. That weekend ended early with a North Carolina snowstorm, meaning the girls will play five games in three days this weekend in Las Vegas.

Via National League – a winner-take-all 14U Black Division match, Lou Fusz Geerling 05 (MO) earned a 1-0 win against Beadling 2005 South Red (PA-W) to secure a first-place finish. The game was tight throughout and went to the second half in a scoreless tie. That changed in the 32nd minute on a great individual effort from Lou Fusz’s Morgan Struttmann. She made a strong run from the right wing — holding off multiple Beadling defenders — and blasted a shot inside the near post that flew into the roof of the net. Beadling provided plenty of pressure in the remaining minutes, but Lou Fusz held on for the shutout victory that helped it punch a ticket to the National Championships.
SATURDAY UPDATE – Geerling are now 6-0 and play their final game Sunday against the #2 side, Beadling (PA). A draw or a win will ensure they capture the bracket and advance to the National Championships in July (being held in Overland Park, KS)
Lou Fusz Geerling 05 (MO) are currently co-leaders, as they each picked up two wins during play in North Carolina. Through two games, Snohomish has produced the best goal differential of any team in the age group by netting five goals while allowing none. Lou Fusz nearly matched that mark, as it conceded just once while scoring five times.
Game to Watch
March 16, Lou Fusz Geerling 05 (MO) vs. Snohomish United 05 Black (WA) WON 2-0 Amelia Martin with the brace
These teams begin their second day in Las Vegas with this important morning matchup. Should either side fall behind in the standings following the games on Friday, this match will present an opportunity to climb back toward the top with a victory. With Lou Fusz and Snohomish entering the weekend as co-leaders, a head-to-head win for either side could go a long way in helping the victor make a push for first place.
SUNDAY – Morgan Struttmann scored the only goal and the girls finished undefeated in National League!
SATURDAY – open with a 2-0 win over Snohomish on Amelia Martin’s brace followed by a 1-0 win over Rise Elite on a goal by Marin Vines.
FRIDAY – A narrow 1-0 win over SJEB Rush (NJ) on a goal by Emmi Hogan was followed by a 2-0 win over West Pines (FL) that saw Morgan Struttmann get the brace.
Goal scorers – Anna Pagano, Natalie Miller, Emmi Hogan, Morgan Struttmann (3), Amelia Martin (2), Marin Vines
