The St. Joseph Angels shut out Nerinx Hall on Tuesday at home, getting goals from sophomore Grace Kertz and freshman Kiley Duchardt in the second half to win 2-0 in the MWAA Conference match.
Before diving into game details, a bit of history. These two teams have been District foes since 2011 and that run has ended with this years change in classification for the Angels, who move into Class 3. I’m digging for some links, recalling my first girls district coverage was focused on District 2 at Kirkwood in 2012, when Class 3 was still the largest class. This game last year was a big win for Nerinx at home as Liz Kelly starred in PK’s. It was also Head Coach Brian Haddock’s 200th win. St. Joe went on to win the rubber match, the District title, in penalty kicks after a 2-2 draw. While Tuesday’s match was good soccer, I’m feeling a bit melancholy about the lack of the knockout rounds with these two going forward. Have any favorite games?
