I caught a couple of games at the Lou Fusz Spring Invitational, both featuring 2006 girls. The first match was the JB Marine 2006 Sanguinet girls, in green, against United FC (Ohio). A tight affair that ended up being a 1-0 win for the visitors when a forward opportunistically tapped a ball past the keeper after it was knocked down in the box but not controlled.
Check out the PHOTO GALLERY from the match. If you appreciate my efforts to expand coverage of the game regionally, consider purchasing a photo. It helps me cover my costs. Thanks!
It was an entertaining game that kept my attention but I’m also not prepared to dive into detail about games featuring middle school girls. I have made some notes in my player database and I look forward to seeing the on-going development of the players. So please enjoy the photos and look for commentary down the road.
One reason I made it out for the game was seeing the Facebook post below featuring Coach Sarah Sanguinet. Pictured with two former JB Marine players, she has stayed true to the club and is coaching two girls teams, the 2006 girls featured here as well as a 2005 team. In addition to playing for JB Marine, she also featured at Lafayette for Tim Walters and my nephew Drew Bishline, who graduated with her and played in the State Final with Lafayette their senior year (2006-2007) tells me she was a very good player. Now she commits a couple of nights a week working with her teams plus weekends for games. She also works for KSDK, check out some more details here.
