The #UnfinishedBusiness that has marked the Columbia Eagles efforts this year comes to a conclusion this weekend in Naperville. The Eagles will face Lisle in a semifinal match at 5:00 pm today with a possible title berth on the line for Saturday. I’ve got video streaming details below and there will be stories added as the weekend progresses.
There’s a nice preview story up on Chicagoland Soccer (a subscription site, schools have to pay a fee to receive coverage) that notes
Columbia remains the tournament favorite. The Eagles are unbeaten against Illinois schools — their only losses came to highly ranked Missouri schools. They have been top-ranked since Week 2 in Chicagoland Soccer’s exclusive Illinois 10, a poll of the state’s top teams outside of the Chicago area.
This is the third trip to State for the Eagles and their first since 2008. Columbia placed second at the Class 1A state finals in 2006 and was third in 2008.

FRIDAY – goals were scored by Reagan Mauch from Kyra Bivins throw-in in the 15th minute. Mauch turned provider in the 17th minute, on a free kick headed in by Fae Harrell. Haley Glover got the third in the 26th minute, as Jenna Vaught’s throw-in is flicked on by Mary Gasaway to Glover. In the second half, Harrell scores a second, again from Mauch who also assisted as Kennedy Jones got on the board with the final goal.
DAILY HERALD – Columbia Stymies Lisle
Columbia outshot Lisle, 33-1. That’s certainly eye-popping since Lisle has scored 128 goals in its 22 games. But this Columbia team is really something else too. The Eagles even knocked off Class 3A Neuqua Valley 2-1 in late March and own a plus-115 scoring differential.
Lisle will try to regroup for Saturday’s third-place game against Interstate Eight Conference rival Herscher, a team that it lost to 3-2 in late April.
The games are all streamed live. You must Subscribe to the NFHS network and pay $10 for a monthly pass. Note the word subscribe and monthly. The last time I checked the terms are automatic renewal monthly on your subscription so you will likely want to make a note to unsubscribe on Sunday or Monday to avoid those automatic renewals.
I caught a pair of Eagle’s matches this season. An early season game in the Metro Cup as well as the Sectional Semifinal last week. Check out my reports and related game photos. Eagles Shutout Edwardsville in Metro Cup and Columbia Eagles Advance to Sectional Final
I also highlighted the Eagle’s in my initial Illinois playoff report. I featured Haley Glover in that report and the St. Louis writer finally discovered her with a nice feature a few days ago. Glover has committed to play college soccer with the Illinois State Redbirds where she could have a similar impact as Rachel Tejada did during her time in Normal.
