The 2019 US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional Championships have advanced to the knockout rounds, which will be played June 25-26 at Saginaw Township Soccer Complex in Saginaw, Mich. Missouri will be represented by ten teams, seven girls teams and three boys teams. That includes four girls teams from Lou Fusz SC, three from Sporting STL (a boys and two girls team) as well as three teams (one girls) from St. Louis Scott Gallagher (SLSG) SC. Below you can find information on each of the teams along with links to their individual page at US Youth Soccer. Ten Missouri Teams Advance to Midwest Regional Semifinals
Two girls teams – Lou Fusz 2005 Geerling and Lou Fusz 2003 Blue McKee – have already qualified for the US Youth Soccer National Championships by winning their National League division this Spring. On the boys side, SLSG 2003 Elite accomplished the same result although their time at the Midwest Regionals is now over after finishing last in their group with a win and two losses. Who from this group of semifinalists will to the National Championships in Kansas City?
I’ll offer comments of mine or that I share, along with the team schedule and results and a link to their team page at USYSA. All of the games are also now part of my St. Louis soccer calendar where you can find key club, college and professional area games. NOTE – this is a live document so visit regularly!
Lou Fusz 2005 Geerling 3-0 over Nationals TriCounty
Sporting STL 2004 Red Devils 1-0 over Beadling (PA), game winner Maggie Illig
Lou Fusz 2003 McKee win 3-2 over Nationals Union, Kasey Neidhardt with late game-winner
SLSG 2004 Boys win 1-0 over Chicago Fire, game-winner Will Raftery
Lou Fusz 2002 United Blue lost 0-5 to Cleveland FC but advance to a Midwest Regional Rep game Wednesday
Lou Fusz 2000 Elam lost 0-3 to Campton United but play KY Fire Jr.s in a Midwest Regional Rep game Wednesday
A note on the games United and Elam will play. Apparently both finalists in their age group already qualified through National League so teams are playing for a spot to be the region II rep at nationals, much like when a Midwest Conference qualifier goes to Regionals after winning Cup, the finalist goes as the State representative.
Sporting STL 2006 lose 0-2 to Nationals Union Black
SLSG 2004 Elite lose 0-7 to SC Waukesha
Sporting STL 2006 boys in PK’s to KC Fusion
SLSG 2002 Boys 2-7 to Galaxy Blue (IL)
The girls come in strong, ranked #2 in the region and feeling confident after having beaten both FC United (2-0) and Gretna (3-1) in Midwest Conference play this Spring and Lexington (7-0) last Fall in the LF Fall Invitational.

St. Louis sends two highly ranked teams to the tournament in this age group. For Geerling, one loss in early October to KC Athletics was followed by 24 straight wins. A draw vs SLSG Elite followed by 1-3 loss to Sporting STL Academy in the Cup Final has offered a valuable lesson in advance to Regional play, which they advanced to by winning their Midwest Conference Premier I division. The team has already qualified for Nationals by winning their National League division as well so the games this week are truly preparation and winning is often the best preparation.

The Missouri side nearly broke through just minutes after the break, but an Amelia Martin header from a corner kick hit the crossbar. Lou Fusz kept pushing and grabbed a lead in the 60th minute, as Cambell Watters ran on to a bouncing partial clearance following a corner kick and hit a half volley that deflected just over the goal line. Five minutes later, Morgan Struttmann doubled the Lou Fusz advantage when she perfectly placed a shot over the keeper and inside the far post. I want 2 wish the 6 teams that won @MOyouthSoccer State Cup best of luck. Although it’s an accomplishment & all should be proud, however, winning Regionals was the standard @ @SLSGsoccer not State Cup. It’s a great honor 2 win cup but our history shows that Regionals is the bar. pic.twitter.com/r9vQnOpZgE
