Catching up on some local news. Dave Beck has been named the Boys Director at Sporting STL within a month of Jeff Stevens and Mike Baer were named as the new Club Leadership team. Dave is a local lad, having played at Hazelwood
Beck was an assistant Coach for the SLU Billikens from 2006-2009, after which he joined Head Coach Dan Donigan in moving to Rutgers. The NCAA appearance was the fourth in a row for the Billikens who have only reached the national tournament twice since. As the story on Donigan’s move notes, that four year run was considered somewhat a disappointment in the Billiken soccer. Ironic eh.
Beck came to Saint Louis University after spending six seasons on the coaching staff at (then) NAIA power Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. He was involved in all facets of the Lions’ program including scouting, recruiting and training. The Lions won the 2004 NAIA National Championship and qualified for the NAIA Tournament for five consecutive seasons spanning 2000-05.
He is coaching two teams in addition to his Director responsibilities. He’s taken over the 2003 Academy boys team with Tommy Howes departure from the club he founded (haven’t done that story either, have I…) He also has the 2007 Academy boys team. Welcome home Dave.
