The CBC Tournament opened this evening with a pair of games. The night cap featured the host CBC Cadets in gold against the SLUH Jr. Billikens in white. The Jr. Billikens opened the scoring in the 15th minute via Evan Yalavarthi (celebrating above) when they scored following a throw-in deep in the CBC end. It started with a counter-attack following a CBC corner kick with Sr. goalkeeper Peter Herrmann hitting a punt that found Sr. Tilahun Murphy 70 yards downfield as he had taken off in a full sprint in anticipation of the kick. His challenge led to the throw-in and on the ensuing throw-in went all the way through the box due to miscommunication between the CBC keeper and his defender. An effort to send it back in was intercepted but the clearance didn’t get out of the box as Yalavarthi stepped into it and finished just under the crossbar (video below via SLUH).
