The Class 4 District 4 playoffs are being hosted by Lafayette this year and includes a familiar crew with West once again returning to Class 4. The Longhorns came out strong on Monday night, fighting to win 50/50 balls and pushing forward into the attack. They got the desired result in the 8th minute when Jr Andrew Parnas soared high to head in a corner kick for an early lead.

CBC accepted the challenge and started stringing some passes that had previously been intercepted thanks to some good scouting by West. The Cadets tied the score on a corner kick in the 18th minute when Sr. Captain Damian Clucas was in the right spot to finish. Then with less than three minutes remaining, a ball sent through the box from the right side by Riley Dubbs was one-timed back across the face of the goal by Sr. Justin Tabb in what proved to be the game-winner.
The second half included a 25 yard direct kick goal by Sr. Captain Cade Walsh (seen celebrating above) and the Cadet’s got their final goal from Jr. Andrew Muth. Muth scored from one yard out as he ran a ball into the back of the net, where he also ended up. That addressed his anguish a minute earlier when
Riley Dubb’s Kaden Smith’s ball from the right side was pushed wide left by Muth despite facing an empty net. Remember, there are no failures, only lessons.
That’s also a lesson the Cadets appear to have learned, after a string of losses in early September pushed them below the .500 mark. It wasn’t until two weeks ago they went over the .500 mark with an MCC win against Vianney on October 22nd moved them to 11-10-2. They now have a streak of five wins that began at the Jefferson City Tournament where Head Coach Terry Michler achieved his 1000th win in High School boys soccer, a record unlikely to be broken when the Cadet’s beat Nixa to even their record at 10-10-2.
The Cadets will face Lafayette on Wednesday for the District title at Lafayette.
