The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) returns with nine of the league’s teams competing in what is being called the Fall Series. Three local lasses will be participating, with Becky Sauerbrunn (Portland), Julie King (Orlando) and Sarah Luebbert (Chicago) on the rosters for their respective teams. Alyssa Mautz (Chicago) is still injured. Julie, Sarah and Becky Ready For NWSL Return
The opening broadcast, featuring North Carolina vs Houston was to be tonight but the game has been moved to Saturday as the feature game on CBS. The original CBS opening game, between Portland and the OL Reign, has been moved to Tuesday due to the fires in the Northwest.
King was released by North Carolina (who picked her when Boston went under) following a year on the injured list. She was picked up shortly after that by Orlando, recognizing her ironwoman performance for Boston as a proven defender in the league. She appeared in two matches at the end of 2019 but was not included in the Challenge Cup roster. I hope we get to see here this Fall! An Auburn (soccer AND basketball) and Nerinx Hall alum. UPDATE

I haven’t seen a formal roster for Portland but based upon the Instagram post below, it appears Becky is on the roster along with the all-time leading goalscorer in soccer, Christine Sinclair (CAN) and as a comment notes, we should see Sophia Smith as well.
There will be a televised NWSL Game of the Week on the CBS Television Network every Saturday in September, and on CBS Sports Network three Saturdays in October. CBS All Access will exclusively stream four games as well as the CBS broadcast coverage in September. Twitch will exclusively stream seven games globally, including in the United States, and every game internationally.
The NWSL fall series will include 18 matches over the course of seven weeks, featuring three, three-team pods that will all play one another and enable the league to minimize travel. Check out the 2020 NWSL Fall Series Schedule that can also be found on my Soccer on TV calendar on the homepage. Broadcast information for the next two weeks is below.

Alyssa Mautz is still recovering from her most recent injury, suffered just before the Challenge Cup. She’s the all-time leader in games played for the Red Stars going back to 2012 in the WSL, before NWSL began. I made a trip to Chicago to shoot a game when she and Lori Chalupny were teammates. I also got to catch up with some of my players from my time coaching in the IWSL.
Well lost of words with this one…. Thought I would be getting on a plane today heading to Utah with my @chicagoredstars for the NWSL challenge cup but instead Im heading into surgery. Don’t really know the answer to the why this has happened to me again but I know I will become even stronger when this is all over. The road to recovery begins today!!! Can’t wait to watch my teammates kill it in the tournament and can only wish I could be there with them fighting on the field. #aclrecovery #chicagoredstars
