Quarterfinals kicked off today with a Class 2 match on the West side of the state. #7 Bishop LeBlond hosts #20 Oak Grove and we should have a result by 9pm. The winner will face the Orchard Farm/St. Mary’s winner in the semifinal on Saturday. There are five matches locally across the four classes, with two significant games. In Class 3, the Ft. Zumwalt South Bulldogs come in ranked #1 and host #3 ranked Summit Tuesday evening. In Class 4, it’s #2 DeSmet at #1 St. Dominic. The Crusader’s are 13-0 at home this season. I wonder if the Spartan’s will have a complete roster. I’ve linked to two stories about a student-hosted Halloween party that has led the school to announce quarantines.
I’m using the Missouri High School Soccer Coaches Association new Power Rankings. Visit the website to see the full list that is updated to include the District playoff results. There were two upsets in the Sectionals out of sixteen games in Classes 3-4 last week, so they are holding up well. The upsets were #19 Clayton’s win over #8 Webster Groves and #27 Park Hill over #10 Liberty.
On a health note, the Riverfront Times reports that a high school Halloween party should lead to self-quarantine for over 1/4 of the DeSmet student body (682 this year). No word on whether it impacts the soccer team yet. A report on KSDK Channel 5 notes a DeSmet public release noting “We identified and quarantined all students who were in attendance at the party, which was not a school-sanctioned event.” No word yet on whether any soccer players were among the attendees.

SEMIFINALS CLASS 4
Jackson hosts Park Hill
5:00 pm, St. Dominic at Jeff City
DeSmet scored late in the first half as Thomas Redmond ran onto a bouncing ball in the box (video) but Jimmy Doherty equalized for St. Dominic in the second half. Scoreless overtime periods pushed the decision to PKs. Both teams hit the first five but in sudden death, Will Nicholson came up with a save on the sixth DeSmet effort and sophomore Michael Holliday scored on his attempt.
