An 0-3 loss for Sporting to eventual champion SC Wave in the final group game on July 25, 2019

What’s billed as the first ever Girls Academy Event, the GATX 2021 Showcase that offers a single location to see a number of teams in action, got underway today in Round Rock Texas (Northern suburb of Austin). The temperatures are on the edge of playing (low 30’s) and the 3pm match I watched had wind gusts that kept the goal kicks to under 35 yards, well short of the center circle. I pity the video camera operators perched above the field in these conditions. You can see for yourself by visiting the Live Stream available for all of the games this weekend. The Sporting STL 2004 Red Devils, defending Midwest Regional champions, are participating and will open play today (Friday) at 5:00 on Field 8. I have their schedule listed below but be aware the odds are good that it might change. If you want the latest, follow the Twitter account @SportingRD2004

I haven’t seen the girls play since the USYS National Championship series in Kansas City last July so I’m interested in seeing how things have developed since. I’ll also have a second screen open as the SC Wave v Sporting BV match will be on at the same time today. Sporting STL are currently in third place in their Mid-America division that is led by the undefeated SC Wave while Sporting BV are undefeated in the Frontier Division. SC Wave are the defending National Champions, winning as U15’s in Kansas City in 2019. UPDATE – Woah! SBV with a 5-0 win over SC Wave!

2/14 TBA Sporting STL Red Devils v Weston FC canceled
2/14 11:30 am U19 LFA v EW Surf 5-0 W (canceled at HT)

Note: on Friday the GA had already made a determination that games Monday would be canceled due to impending weather (tweet below) although there was a slate of U19 games that were played in 23 degree temperatures and winds of 10 mph or higher (wind chills in low teens) while the city of Austin was under a Winter Weather warning!

Monday is canceled. In the interest of player safety, we are proactively making the decision to cancel Monday's games, as the weather does not appear to be a safe environment for extended outdoor activity. #GAFTP CHECK SCHEDULES for more adjustments. #GARising #OnAMission #BeSeen pic.twitter.com/sRUwYFrcRm

Bitterly cold air and wintry precipitation in the form of
freezing rain, sleet, and snow will impact the Austin/Round Rock region today through Monday. 23 degrees with 10 mph winds, sounds worse on the live stream at #GATX2021https://t.co/TeedOiT0Mf

All of the games this weekend and next at #GATX21 will be made available to every club and college coaches post event.
