After giving up a goal 56 seconds into the match, the Fox Warriors chipped away as sophomore Aubrey Andrews scored in both halves for the 2-1 win. Andrews second goal came with only 28 seconds remaining on the clock on service by freshman Natalie Miller (they are club teammates at LFA) The win ensured that Fox would move on to the Championship game of their tournament the following day, when they will face Notre Dame. Sr Kailyn Bridges scored for Rosati-Kain in what I assume was a breakaway as the Kougars spent plenty of time Wednesday sending long balls up top where Kailyn was the lone forward in a 4-2-3-1 system (I was wrapping up a conversation with a parent/follower on the sideline). A 1st team All-State performer in 2019, she’s headed for D1 Bellarmine in the Fall.
Andrews scored her first in the 17th minute. A nice cross into the box by freshman Kylee Bearden from the left side was knocked down by Jr goalkeeper Asia Barcom, a transfer from Oakville. The ball was not cleared and Andrews stepped into a shot from just inside the box and hammered it into the back of the net. There were additional opportunities as the Warriors were in control for much of the game but a defense led by Sr Grace Henderson, and the crossbar once, kept things close until the end. Freshman Natalie Miller #6) was the pulling the strings throughout as the team played a 4-3-3 with Miller acting in the 10, attacking midfield role. She lived up to her responsibilities and will be a key player to watch this Spring. The Warriors are young with So Angelina Friedman #24 at outside back along with Fr Kylee Bearden #8 on the other side. So Sarah Adamec is a center back, paired with Sr Rachel Harris. At defensive mid is Sr
Lena Higgins Amelia Chapman while So Ashlyn McKamely plays in the 8 role alongside Miller. Up top So Ella Robinson is joined by Jr Lily Cook as the wingers and Andrews the center forward. So eight of the eleven starters – GK Elizabeth Arnold is a sophomore – are underclassmen. The team has pace, an emphasis on attacking and a pretty good defense. They’ve got a two year window to try and get past Jackson in their district. Have they won a District title?
UPDATE a member of the Girls team in 1996 tells me they won the District title that year. With children in the school district now, she’s unaware of any other titles since
