UPDATE: St. Louis City SC released their weekend preview with comments from Andreas Schumacher
For St. Louis City SC, it will be a bit of a coming-out party for Andreas Schumacher, the Academy Head Coach, who has arrived in St. Louis from Germany. As seen in the photos by Will Bramlett, it was AS managing the game between #stlCITYSC v Minnesota United from the sideline November 21st. Also on hand was Bernhard Peters (on right), Youth Academy Development Consultant. I can only assume he’ll join the team for the trip to California, who would turn that opportunity down.
Below you will find more details and schedules for the games. Streaming could be available, I’ll update this report and my TV calendar when it becomes available. For action photos, visit my MLS Next Academy Category for galleries of the thirteen matches I’ve covered this Fall including Lou Fusz and St. Louis Scott Gallagher, something that makes my site unique in the area.
Generation adidas Cup Qualifiers will feature 45 MLS Academies across the U15 and U17 age divisions competing for seeding in next year’s Generation adidas Cup. The teams will play three games over four days and as noted, this will offer seeding for the Summer’s primary event. Thus St. Louis City Academy are grouped with the NY Red Bulls (Mid-Atlantic/East North) Portland Timbers (Northwest/West) and Chicago Fire (Mid-America/Central North) Note – (Inter League Division/Pro Player Pathway Division)
The team played their inaugural match in Chicago against the Fire, coming back to win 4-3. I’ve added some new tools to the website to improve my coverage of the team, here’s an initial glimpse using the Fire game as my initial test. Player rosters and stats will also be added going forward. There’s also a link to the stlCITYsc report in there.
NY Red Bulls are on nine-game unbeaten streak, with a record of 9-3-2. They opened with 1-3-1 record before finishing 8-0-1, the draw against NE Revolution in early November
Portland Timbers are 3-7-1
Chicago Fire are 9-2-2 with their other loss coming against Sporting KC 0-3 in early September. They drew with MN United and Shattuck-St. Mary’s Halloween weekend
The @stlCITYsc lads face the Fire today at 2pm in a rematch of the team they beat in the first game of their inaugural season. The Fire beat Portland 1-0 on Friday and the result below came against the NYRB who beat City 3-0 Friday. Big challenge ahead today! https://t.co/CkhIoBxmEB

As for the League/Inter League/Division model that MLS Next has listed under Standings it’s clear as mud about how/why teams are grouped as they are. St. Louis City SC is listed as being in the Central/South Division in the Standings with Austin FC, Sporting KC, Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas when you chose the League designation. SLSG is listed under the Mid-America Division (with Sockers FC, IN Fire, MI Wolves, Midwest United, Vardar, Shattuck-St. Mary’s and FC United). When the Inter League choice is made, #stlCITYsc is grouped in the Mid-America Division with Chicago, FC Cincinnati, Columbus Crew and Minnesota United all added to the League version.

UPDATE Monday – Jack Wagoner was chosen to participate in the U17/U19 combined All-Star match
UPDATE Sunday – Mykhi Joyner was chosen to participate in the U16 All-Star match Saturday evening, scoring the only goal for the East team. An advantage of competition is that you see that SLSG Academy tweeted the information on the honor late Sunday night, after my early sharing of the Heather’s tweet 🙂 Social media isn’t easy

Had fun watching Mykhi Joyner play in the @MLSNEXT U16 All-Star game last night. With the lone goal for the #EAST team, he brought the excitement and represented @SLSGAcademy @SLSGtraining well!!! Good work, Khi! pic.twitter.com/zLM9ETgcKq

“A 🤸🏽♂️ we all love to see!”
