2015: Made 12 appearances in all competitions for the LA Galaxy, including six in the MLS regular season. Meyer started and played the full 90 minutes in each of the Galaxy’s four Group D games in the CONCACAF Champions League as the side went unbeaten to advance to the knockout stage. He made two appearances in the U.S. Open Cup, helping the club to Fourth and Fifth Round victories, while he played in seven games for LA Galaxy II in the USL – including all four games in the USL Playoffs. In the summer, Meyer played in two friendly games in the International Champions Cup, playing against Club America (July 11) before scoring the Galaxy’s only goal in a 2-1 loss to Barcelona (July 21).

2014: Set career-highs with 12 appearances in the MLS regular season, including 10 starts. He made his season debut against Chivas USA (April 6) before starting nine out of 10 games between May 18 and July 20, helping the side to a 5-2-2 record in that time. Meyer played in two games in the MLS Cup Playoffs, and LA went 9-2-3 in regular-season and postseason play when Meyer appeared as he helped his side claim their second MLS Cup in three seasons with an overtime victory over New England (December 7). He made one appearance in the U.S. Open Cup while he also played in five games for LA Galaxy II in the USL.

2014 September 15 Tommy Meyer Hoping for Starting Spot after draw with SJ
Tommy Meyer made his first start for the LA Galaxy since July 19 and the defender did not miss a beat in the club’s 1-1 draw with the San Jose Earthquakes.

2014 July 03 – Tommy Meyer Hoping to Maintain Starting Job with Return of USMNT’s Omar Gonzalez
Head coach Bruce Arena and his staff haven’t determined who will be his partner in central defense, but they’ve been surveying all of the options while Gonzalez has been away, giving time to A.J. DeLaGarza, Leonardo, Tommy Meyer and Kofi Opare.

Meyer made a strong case in last weekend’s 1-0 victory at San Jose, playing what Arena called the “best game of his career,” and he’s hoping to add to his credentials if he gets the call again against the Timbers.

2014 July 02 – Tommy Meyer Turning Heads with Omar Gonzalez away on International Duty
Second was the performance of central defender Tommy Meyer, whom head coach Bruce Arena credited for having his best game of the season. His performance earned him a spot on mlssoccer.com’s team of the week.

“I thought his positioning was good, his defending in the air in particular was good and his communication and passing were good,” (Head Coach Bruce) Arena said. “He played very well.”

2014 Jun3 30 – MLS Team of the Week (week 16) Young Guns take the Spotlight
D: Tommy Meyer (LA Galaxy) – Filling in for Omar Gonzalez, Meyer put forth the best game of his career in the Galaxy’s California Clasico win.

2014 June 05 – Leonardo has found reliable central back partner in Tommy Meyer
Leonardo has started eight games this season but just the last two with Meyer, who has four starts in five appearances. Leonardo and Meyer not only are two of the Galaxy’s youngest defenders (Leonardo and Meyer are 26 and 24, respectively) but among the team’s most physical players.

“They’re both good center backs,” Arena said. “Tommy has taken advantage of his opportunity and they position themselves pretty well.

From LA Galaxy website, 2013 Player Overview
Tommy Meyer went from starter on the 2012 MLS Cup championship team to fringe player during the 2013 season as he endured a challenging year. Expected to take a major step forward and challenge for a starting role alongside Omar Gonzalez, Meyer found himself buried on the depth chart behind Leonardo, A.J. DeLaGarza, and eventually rookie Kofi Opare. How the 23-year-old responds will likely determine how his career will turn out as Meyer must regain the confidence that made him an integral member of the Galaxy’s run to their fourth MLS title just a year ago. For Meyer to do this, he must capitalize on his on-the-field chances as he was exposed in key moments during the 2013 season. Although he struggled in 2013, Meyer has physical tools to become a valuable defender in MLS. Read the background

2013 September 05 – LA Galaxy likely to lean on Tommy Meyer at center back in absence of Omar Gonzalez
Meyer has five starts in central defense this year, but none since the Galaxy’s 2-0 loss at Colorado in late July.

Meyer started all six playoff games last season but hasn’t been utilized as often in year two as in his rookie year, but he was good in LA’s scoreless draw with San Jose in an MLS Reserve League match last weekend.

2012: Made 19 appearances in all competitions after being drafted in the first round (19th overall) of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft by the LA Galaxy. Meyer made his debut for the club in LA’s home opener against Real Salt Lake (March 11) and went on to make a further seven appearances in the MLS regular season. With AJ DeLaGarza and Omar Gonzalez injured ahead of the MLS Cup Playoffs, Meyer played every minute, recording an assist in the second leg of the Western Conference Semifinals against the San Jose Earthquakes (November 7). He played the full 90 minutes at centerback as the Galaxy went on to claim MLS Cup with a 3-1 win against Houston (December 1). He also made one appearance in the U.S. Open Cup and played in four games in the CONCACAF Champions League – scoring his first professional goal with the game-winner against the Puerto Rico Islanders (August 30).

2012 Feb 05 – Fitting Right In – Tommy Meyer continues to impress in his first weeks as a pro

Acquired by Los Angeles: Selected by the Galaxy in the first round (19th overall) of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft.
Said Bruce Arena, “He’s a player that has a good profile to be a center back in this league. He has physical size. He’s a good header of the ball. A good defender and a decent passer out of the back. Once we get him into our setting we can learn a little bit more and work with him and try to make him better.”
