Tulsa Roughnecks win 2-0 at Saint Louis FC in exhibition

Charles Renken cuts back before delivering a ball into the box

Per Sports Illustrated, Saint Louis FC will fold following the 2020 season. When contacted by Sports Illustrated on Tuesday, a Saint Louis FC spokesperson said, “The ownership decided that with the financial impact of COVID-19 and MLS on the horizon, it didn’t make sense to continue operations.”

Saint Louis FC averaged 4,532 fans per game at World Wide Technology Soccer Park during the 2019 regular season, a total that was right around the league average. It qualified for the USL playoffs just once across its first five seasons, but made headlines last year with a run to the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals that included wins over a pair of MLS clubs. It has started the 2020 campaign with a 4-3-2 record.

On May 1, 2014, it was announced that USL was expanding to St. Louis for the 2015 season. St. Louis Scott Gallagher, a well-renowned St. Louis youth club, was announced as the owner and operator of the new Saint Louis FC. Both the youth club and the pro team are based at the World Wide Technology Soccer Park (formerly St. Louis Soccer Park) in Fenton, MO, commonly known as “The Soccer Park“.

There has been a lot of chatter about why attendance is so low for #STLFC and if the STL is a soccer town anymore.

So what is the reason why you, or people you know, don't go to games? pic.twitter.com/3KLYTVTUDi

2015 May 18 – Saint Louis FC hosting Des Moines in US Open Cup action BY DAVE LANGE
Although St. Louis hasn’t been represented in the tournament since the long-defunct AC St. Louis reached the third round in 2010, the city has strong historical connections to the 101-year-old event, one of the oldest open soccer tournaments in the world.

2015 March 14 – STLFC Succumb to Roughnecks
An 0-2 loss as an own goal, on a ball deflected into the net by Parker Maher, after his teammates stopped playing despite the lack of a whistle on a handball. The second midway through the second half on a counter as STLFC was pushed forward looking for an equalizer.

Starting XI for #STLFC: Pais; Dixon, Musa, Fink, Maher; Bibbs, Renken, Kotlov, Hardware; Ambersley, Gaul.
